DIRTY CLOSETS
Dirty Closets is documentairetheater over de economisch-seksuele uitwisselingen in een koloniale context, de coming-out van sekswerkers en daarbij de nood aan een collectief en historisch herstel.
Jamal Phoenix en Marianne Chargois, twee hedendaagse sekswerkers, hebben beiden voorouders uit voormalig Franse kolonies: de Caribische eilanden en het oude Indochina. Laverend tussen enerzijds de levensverhalen van hun voorouders en anderzijds een onderzoek naar het leven van minderheden proberen de twee performers de stilte in hun geschiedenis te doorbreken. Ze vragen zich af hoe hun voorouders thema’s als gender, klasse en ras hebben ervaren en hoe het zat met economische en seksuele intimiteit.
Met geluidsontwerper Mona Servo en beeldend kunstenaar Thy Truong Minh die live optreden, vertelt Dirty Closets verhalen van het industriële koloniale tijdperk van weleer tot het neokoloniale en neokapitalistische tijdperk van vandaag.

Dirty Closets est un spectacle documentaire qui traite des échanges économiques et sexuels dans un contexte colonial, du coming out des travailleurs du sexe et, par là même, de la nécessité d'une réparation collective et historique.
Jamal Phoenix et Marianne Chargois, deux travailleurs du sexe actuels, ont tous deux des ancêtres originaires d'anciennes colonies françaises : les îles des Caraïbes et l'ancienne Indochine. Naviguant entre, d'une part, les récits de vie de leurs ancêtres et, d'autre part, une réflexion sur la vie des minorités, les deux artistes tentent de briser le silence qui entoure leur histoire. Ils se demandent comment leurs ancêtres percevaient des sujets comme le genre, la classe sociale et la race, et comment se présentait l'intimité économique et sexuelle.
Accompagné des performances en direct de la conceptrice sonore Mona Servo et de l'artiste plasticien Thy Truong Minh,Dirty Closets raconte des histoires couvrant l'ère coloniale industrielle d'antan jusqu'à l'ère néocoloniale et néocapitaliste d'aujourd'hui.
Dirty Closets is a documentary performance addressing the theme of economic-sexual exchanges in a colonial context, the coming out of sex workers, and the need for collective and historical reparations expressed therein.
Jamal Phoenix and Marianne Chargois, two contemporary sex workers, both have family trees rooted in countries colonised by France, in the Caribbean Islands and former Indochina. Between genealogical-biographical narrative and surveying minority life, the two performers attempt to respond to the silences of their history: caught up in issues of gender, class and race, what economic and sexual intimacies did their ancestors experience?
With sound designer Mona Servo and visual artist Thy Truong Minh performing live, Dirty Closets tells stories from yesterday's industrial colonial era to today's neo-colonial and neo-capitalist era.
