Ander Strand
Een vurig feest van vrijheid en activisme
In 1978 organiseerde de Gentse Rooie Vlinder, een radicale homo-organisatie, de allereerste Belgische Pride in België. Een feest én een protest in één. De organisatie strijdt voor gelijke rechten en speelt zo een cruciale rol binnen de LGBTQIA+-gemeenschap van toen.
Gesterkt door het nalatenschap van de Rooie Vlinder herinterpreteren diverse queerartiesten in Ander Strand hun verleden met een hedendaagse blik. Diverse disciplines ontmoeten elkaar in deze hervertelling van een ongekende geschiedenis.
Ze creëren een poging om tegemoet te komen aan het verlangen naar een feestelijk, activistisch ritueel waarin verbinding, community en de zoektocht naar identiteit en vrijheid centraal staan, in een wereld vol onzekerheid en onderdrukking.
Na de voorstelling nodigen we iedereen uit om mee te wandelen in de optocht. De voorstelling zelf duurt 80 minuten, de optocht met speeches zal zo’n 40 minuten duren.

Une célébration passionnée de la liberté et de l'activisme
En 1978, le collectif «Rooie Vlinder» gantois, une organisation gay radicale, a organisé la toute première Pride du pays. C'était à la fois une fête et une manifestation. L'organisation militait pour l'égalité des droits et a ainsi joué un rôle crucial au sein de la communauté LGBTQIA+ de l'époque.
Renforcés par l'heritage du «Rooie Vlinder», divers artistes queer réinterprètent leur passé avec un regard contemporain dans Ander Strand. Plusieurs disciplines se rencontrent dans cette relecture d'une histoire méconnue.
Ils tentent de créér un rituel festif et militant qui répond au désir au désir de connexion, de communauté et de quête d’identité et de liberté, dans un monde marqué par l’incertitude et l’oppression.
Après le spectacle, nous invitons tout le monde à participer à la procession, mais la participation est entièrement facultative. Le spectacle dure 80 minutes et la procession, avec les discours, environ 40 minutes.
A passionate celebration of freedom and activism
In 1978, the Ghent-based Rooie Vlinder, a radical gay rights organisation, organised Belgium’s very first Pride event. It was both a celebration and a protest. The organisation fought for equal rights and thus played a crucial role within the LGBTQIA+ community at the time.
Empowered by the legacy of the Rooie Vlinder, a range of queer artists in Ander Strand reinterpret their past through a contemporary lens. A variety of disciplines come together in this retelling of an unknown history.
They attempt to create a festive, activist ritual that fulfills the desire for connection, community, and the search for identity and freedom, in a world full of uncertainty and oppression.
After the performance, we invite everyone to walk in the procession, but participation is entirely optional. The performance itself lasts 80 minutes, and the procession with speeches will last about 40 minutes.
